The game begins with the player controlling either Crash or Spyro, who are both in the year 20XX. They are investigating a strange energy field that has been appearing all over the world. Suddenly, they are attacked by a group of robots, and they must fight their way through to reach the source of the energy field.
Once they reach it, they find out that it is a time machine that has been activated by Dr. Neo Cortex. He plans to use it to travel back in time and take over the world. The player must stop him before he can do this, and they must do this by using their powers to travel through time and defeat Cortex’s enemies.
